The Maharashtrian community in Malaysia has deep roots. Maharashtra Mandal Malaysia (MMM) was founded in 1997, beginning with a Ganapati festival organised by a small group of enthusiastic families in Kuala Lumpur. Today it is a formally established non-profit organisation with its own website (mmmalaysia.org), a Facebook page, and an Instagram presence, running cultural events throughout the year.
Maharashtrian families in Malaysia are concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, and the technology corridor, as well as in Penang and Johor Bahru. Many work in IT, manufacturing, finance, and engineering. The community has been building for nearly three decades.
